@banyan your analysis is absolutely spot on. I got to this Site because I was looking go see if anyone out there had a similar opinion to mine. I switched from my bb 9700 to the galaxy s3 this summer and while I can do anything on my galaxy, the user experience is just not there for what you refer to as the power user. I am loving the "get things done" message being communicated by all rim executives with respect to the bb10 platform. They seem to understand that very important pain point. I can't wait to get my hands on a bb 10 device to see if can address my needs. If so goodbye galaxy and hello z10 or x10.

Don't we all! I am going through a similar experience with my BB. I'm using a Samsung phone running Android and I'm surprised at how many things I can get done on it, but as you said not as fast as I'd like. I still have my BB and occasionally switch back to it, only to quickly switch back. The main reasons I'm unable to commit to my BB are:

1) hourglass
2) apps, or lack thereof (a distant second)

Somebody tell Heins.

If RIM launched with Android, they might as well have just let Google buy them for a dollar. People don't realize how powerful the QNX RTOS is. It is far superior to iOS & Android. Plus, RIM is looking beyond mobile at deep integration strategies. Android would not be helpful in that regard.

I find CIO's typically come from a business and IT background. So although they can be technical, it's not really a software development background. Some software engineering & computer science grads do decide to go the IT route, but it's more around IT Operations, Governance, Business Process and Customer Service, Support & Satisfaction.

As for leaders understanding the people they're leading -- this is a typical problem with senior leadership that does not have the experience record to match the organization they're leading. I find this typically happens for CIO's, CTO's, EVP's of R&D or Engineering -- mostly because C-level leaders prefer business savvy over technical expertise and sometimes it's hard to find both. There are strategies to deal with this type of discrepancy, but I find the most useful strategy is to install seasoned leaders with appropriate experiences within the organization that you can trust to provide you with the technical knowledge that you may lack.
